During the shedding season, there is an increased need for omega-3 fatty acids. Simultaneously, a lower supply through grazing is expected during this time.

It is recommended to provide linseed oil once in spring when the pastures are not yet in their vegetative phase and then in late summer and autumn when the pastures are grazed down, and vegetation is preparing for winter.

Dr. Weyrauch pure linseed oil is rich in valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega-3 fatty acids, making it a fine supplement to the feed ration, particularly during shedding, increased energy demand, or for overall improvement in feed situations. Even when feeding exclusively hay or silage, linseed oil should be added.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids are essential for the construction of every cell wall structure, especially the nerve cells. Nerve cells have the largest surface area of all cells, thus having the highest demand for polyunsaturated fatty acids among all body cells. Additionally, the blood benefits from increased flowability due to omega-3 fatty acids, as the cell wall of red blood cells becomes more flexible. This results in better micro-skin structure blood supply, rapid improvement in hair and skin, and an immediate enhancement of the coat. Linseed oil also contributes to better elasticity in brittle hooves.

Linseed oil provides approximately 3.8 MJ of energy per 100 ml, which is nearly equivalent to the energy content of 300g of oats. Therefore, it should be considered in the overall daily feed ration.

This linseed oil is extracted through a cold-pressing process at low temperatures (below 40°C) and low pressure. It is then degummed, deacidified, and gently filtered. The quality of this excellent oil can be quickly discerned by its pleasant nutty taste, which is not bitter, indicating freshness and a low peroxide value.

Slight cloudiness does not indicate a quality defect but is characteristic of cold-pressed linseed oil (only refined oil is clear). Since linseed oil belongs to the group of so-called drying oils, always keep the container tightly closed to minimize skin formation.
